[HOURLY UPDATES POSTED at www.cuwireless.net]

I'm working on coordinating a group of folks to head down to the NOLA area... CNT is sending an advance team down to Rayville, LA and we're taking things from there. If you want to help, let me know -- our main need right now is funding (we're currently paying for everything out of our own pockets). More details on the CUWiN website. Other folks are working to set up a new LPFM radio station at the Astrodome, but need 10,000 radios (and the batteries to run them) before the authorities will allow them on the air. If you have leads, let us know.

How would the communication situation in LA be different if there had been more LPFM stations and a community wireless network in place before the hurricane hit?

Can you get windup radios also? I don't have a contact at FreePlay, but the company manufacturers the kind of radio you could use.

Here is a link to their home page:

    And their numbers:

Can someone in the UK give them a call? Or maybe someone who knows the people at Dixie Sales? (The North American distributor)

    Here is their info: http://www.dixiesales.com/

    Good luck!

The Freeplay wind up radio is distributed by Dixie Sales, Inc. I contacted them and spoke to Robin. She said they had already contacted FEMA and the Red Cross with offers of help. They don't have your full need of radios to donate and do not have a warehouse in the needed area. They sound like they're very willing to help in any way they can. I gave her the cuwireless.net URL and asked if she'd check it out.

Do you have anyone in the Greensboro, North Carolina area? Or someone more connected who could make contact with them? Their number are: Main Office (8am-5pm, M-F) Local: 336-375-7500 and Toll Free: 888-375-7500.

    Good luck.
